One of my most common gripe with cosmetic companies is that every time I find a shade of lipstick, lip gloss, eye shadow, foundation (whatever!) that I really, really love. Invariably, the brand discontinues my favorite product. Like almost ALWAYS. I'm still waiting for MAC to bring back my all time favorite lipstick shade - Chelsea. The MAC Chelsea lipstick was the nude lipstick for the brown skinned girl. It was almost perfect. I had such high hopes for the MAC Chelsea shade with the MAC x Aaliyah collection. Apparently, the MAC Chelsea color was the favorite of the late R&B singer Aaliyah. I can see why. The MAC Chelsea shade was one of the most flattering shade of lipstick available for brown skinned girls back in the 90's. So when MAC came out with the Aaliyah collection, I was super excited. I couldn't wait. But, of course, MAC did not bring back my beloved lipstick color. I felt that collection was such a let down.
Anyway, back to Bobbi. My most favorite shade of eye shadow color was the Bobbi Brown cream eye shadow in Burnished. This was a copper toned eye shadow and the cream eye shadow was super easy to use. I would apply with an eye shadow brush and it was easy to blend in with my fingers. It was easy to control how much I wanted. You could make it look really intense by layering it. However, it was discontinued within five years of me finding it and falling in love with it. Sad story. However, this sad story has a slightly twist to it. A few months back when I was looking for some new eyeshadow colors. I found my BURNISHED!!! It wasn't in my beloved cream shadow form. It was in the form of Bobbi Brown - The Essential Multicolor Eye Shadow Palette - Burnished Bronze - $45.
The Bobbi Brown - The Essential Multicolor Eye Shadow Pallette - Burnished Bronze is an eye shadow palette in shades of brown that is supposed to be 'universally flattering'. The shades in the eye shadow palette are BURNISHED BRONZE Metallic eye shadow, Ultimate Gold metallic eyeshadow, Sugar Sand Shimmer Wash Eye shadow, Rich Brown Eye Shadow and Buttercream Eye shadow. The Burnished, Ultimate Gold and Sugar Sand colors have a shimmer to them. While the Rich Brown and the Buttercream are flat shades.
Bobbi Brown recommends you use a shade close to your skin tone across your lids. Follow by layering a deeper shade on top and then smudge darker shades along your creases and lash lines. Finish with the shimmery shades to accent and highlight.
I found the buttercream to blend very well with my skin tone (Giorgio Armani LSF #9, Bobbi Brown Golden). I follow with Burnished on the lid and smudge the Rich Brown on the edges and lash line. I finish with my Lancome Artliner in black as eyeliner. Simple, easy and flattering makeup suited for darker skin tones.
