Natural Makeup Look for Indian Brides

When I got married many, many, many years ago, I was super adamant that I was going to do my own makeup.  I'm of Indian origin and I celebrated my wedding in India.

In the wedding planning stage, I considered a lot of makeup artists, many who came highly recommend.   However, I found there was a disconnect between what I wanted and what the makeup artist thought was the ideal wedding makeup. Even during my makeup trials, I found that they were almost unwilling to listen to what I wanted because their perception of the 'ideal' wedding makeup. The standard Indian brides makeup look at that time was so fundamentally different to what I considered to be ideal for me.

Anytime, I went in for a facial in India, the facialist would always recommend a 'light bleaching agent' as a 'cleanser' to get an 'instant glow'. This would horrify me. I could never understand why anyone would put any sort of 'bleaching agent' however mild on their FACE or any part of their body (I mean, I don't even use bleach on my laundry).  I also, found it super hilarious when they referred to skin lightening products as 'sunscreen'.

I'm "blessed", I guess, in a way, that I could easily decline these add ons even to the confused facialist who couldn't fathom why I found her suggestions equally hilarious and horrifying.  However, I really feel for other Indian girls similar to me in look (which, lets face it, is a HUGE number) who could easily take suggestions such as those made to me, to feel like their look was inadequate and that they had to almost mutilate it with a bleach based product to look 'ideal'.  I'm disgusted at the thought.

Another reason I found for the disconnect, in my opinion, is the origins of makeup for Indian people. The origins of makeup for Indian people mainly comes from the makeup Indian dancers used.  If you've seen any of the Indian dance forms, you will notice the makeup has a very thick white base type of primer (which almost gives the wearer a 'white face'). Followed by a foundation many shades lighter than the original skin color.  The rest of the makeup is also very dramatic and theatrical.  While this MAY work on the stage, it doesn't quite translate outside of it. I've noticed this dramatic, white based look is favored by many, many Indian brides. Hey, If they are happy with it, there is no judgment here.  However, it's a look that does not work for me and I wasn't going to risk a makeup artist messing up my look and my day based on their perception of the "ideal" look.

For me, I love how I looked even without makeup.  My style preference has always been classic and understated.  I go for looks that are clean, easy and effortless.  I also did not want a look that would date quickly.  I didn't want to look back many years after my wedding and think 'what was i thinking'.  So, my only option was to do my own makeup, keep it clean, classic, natural and pretty.  Which meant a minimal natural bridal makeup look and a more natural radiant look.

A lot of people were shocked I did my own bridal makeup (given the big fat wedding that I ended up having).  However, when I look back at my wedding photos (even after all these many, many, many years), I love it.  I love everything about the look.  I wanted a clean, glowing, pretty bridal look and I achieved that.  My favorite compliment was when a friend recently visited my home and saw my framed wedding photo and said "You know, you look great now, but wow, you look like a movie star in that photo".

Ok long winded story over.  Here are the products that I used.  Unfortunately some of the products have been discontinued, but I've provided alternatives that are still available.

Base
I used La Mer Tinted Moisturizer (discontinued) in shades Medium and Dark -  I mixed the medium and dark shade to get the right shade for me.  Now, I would recommend Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter #6 Dark.

Concealer
Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer kit - Golden.  I used this under my eyes and around the lid and under the brows.

Eyes
Bobbi Brown Long Wear Cream Eye shadow - Burnished (discontinued).  Now, I would recommend Charlotte Tilbury - Bette
Bobbi Brown - Gel Eyeliner applied on lash line and below eye (for a slight dramatic look)

Lips
Bobbi Brown - Pot Rouge - Powder Pink, applied lightly to the center of the lips
Bobbi Brown Lip Gloss - Petal, applied all over lips

Cheeks
Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge - Powder Pink, applied to apples of cheek
Nars - Orgasm - to highlight on cheeks

And, that was it.  That was my no makeup easy bridal makeup.  I loved my natural makeup look.  For any bride of Indian descent that is looking for a pretty, simple, easy Indian bridal look, I would strongly recommend trying out this natural makeup bridal look.

Chanel Les Beiges Water Fresh Tint Foundation in Medium Deep.

Something that always bothers me especially during COVID times when most of us are predominantly shopping online, is a well funded cosmetic / makeup brand failing to properly display shades of its product on their website. It's 2021. Online shopping is not a novelty. There should be no excuses for this sort of shoddy marketing.  Case in point, the Chanel Les Beiges Water-Fresh Tint foundation on the Chanel website (or Macys , or Bloomingdales ) website.   On the Chanel website, there is only one color swatch. No swatches on how it looks on various skin tones (even if those look awfully photoshopped). Minimum details about color and the color names are different on the retailer website and colors mislabeled across websites.  I don't blame the retailers in this case as I think they get their pictures & details from the Chanel website.  However, Chanel could do a better job with their marketing of this product.  Chanel Les Beiges Water Fresh Tint in Medium Dee...

Best Prices, Discounts and Coupons for Charlotte Tilbury Makeup and Cosmetics

Are you looking for discounts, coupon codes and low prices for Charlotte Tilbury Makeup and Cosmetics? Look no further.  Forget all about looking for discounts and coupon codes.  I'm going to reveal THE BEST place for consumers in the United States to purchase Charlotte Tilbury makeup and cosmetics. No, it's not ebay, Amazon or some other discount website with random users selling cosmetics that may or may not be authentic. The website I am going to tell you about is a well know, well respected online website of extremely high end luxury goods.  The prices of Charlotte Tilbury cosmetics and makeup are sometimes more than 25% off the prices at Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Bergdorf Goodman, Bloomingdales and Charlotte Tilbury's own website. For example the price of a Charlotte Tilbury lipstick from Neimans / Nordstrom / Bloomingdales / Charlotte Tilbury's own website is about $34+ taxes.  On the website I'm going to tell you about, it is $25 + taxes about 25% les...
